Tallarn Highlanders 10: selfmade Mortar

A small miracle: two heavy weapons from one... From a big autocannon I get all the pieces to make an original autocannon and the base to self-made a mortar. On wheel, I like it.

Conversions look better on painted miniatures:

Details of heavy weapons:

So, I've to upgrade colour scheme of lascannons:

61/71 Tallarn Highlanders completed.

Mordheim project, part 1: Bretonnia Questing Knight

The deerhunter... I would to set up a Bretonnian warband and so I need a leader. A Questing Knight on foot. I have to self made him. Few parts come from Bretonnian miniatures, you can see Culexus Assassin legs, Woodelf Wardancer kilt...

First I try tu build a torso with Valhallian sleeping beds and a deer head above the helm.

After I chose another torso and so I can add the right arm and legs (one leg and one feet...).

Right arm completed. I have not yet chosen if the Questing Knight would have a spear, a halberd, a morning star. I don't know.

Legs will become big as Storcast ones! The sword in the scabbard helps me to selfmade the rear side.

Left arm completed, with shield. Selfmade chain mail, buckle and two crossed horns on the torso.
It's not easy...

Tallarn Highlanders 9: missile launchers and bases upgrade

After lascannon teams, I finish missile launcher's too. Eleven more Tallarn Highlanders ready. On these heavy weapon I've tried another colour scheme, very simple (old GW colour Leprous Brown) and coherent with tanks one.
Bases get red, because I think Prospero is like Mars...

Now I've to upgrade 41 Desert Raiders bases and three lascannons too...

Meanwhile I've replaced the Exterminator crewman (the Cadian pilot of the old Sentinel) with this conversion:
He wears a rebreather and I don't know why... he's the only one in the whole company!

Tallarn Highlanders 8: selfmade round bases for heavy weapon

I need some big round base... My old heavy weapon teams of Tallarn Highlanders have to be upgraded to 8th edition (or 7th for Horus Heresy). So I get the plastic bases from cd cases, cutting them with the help of a compass (after I've replaced his pencil with a nail).

Now I can paint the three lascannons teams of the company and six more troopers:

Tallarn Highlanders ready for war are 41 on a total of 71:
This Infantry Company fits all the space in the showcase, because of the  new round bases, of course!

Tallarn Highlanders 7: Sergeants, special weapon and Chimera crewman

The renovation of my Tallarn Highlanders goes on (slowly): another thirteen Guards are ready for desert warfare. I've started with Sergeants and special weapons:
Three Sergeants have been easy, the fourth not so much. He come from the autocannon team and he needs a proper wargear: autogun and the curved Tallarn knife.

Then I've painted seven more Desert Raiders (six troopers and the last special weapon).

29/71 Tallarn Highlanders renovated

In the end, a special mention for the Chimera crewman:
I've changed the original head with a Valhallian one, because his bands looks like a turban... I'll renovate the whole tank in another occasion.

Shadow War project, part 1: Tanith Ghosts selfmade

Tanith Ghosts are the perfect Imperial Guard Astra Militarum èlite to play with in Shadow Wars. I mean, they are recons, this is their job. Each one has his own character, each one is a caracther of Dan Abnett novels.
Sadly I've sold all my thirty troopers and the six men of the Command squad are not enough. I've to make two (or maybe three) other Tanith Ghosts: Mayor Rawne and Scout Sergeant Mkoll.
On the left Mkoll, with short hair and beard. He's ok (is the beard too long?). On the right Rawne. His face is enough angry, I hope.

Camocloaks help the weak selfmade miniatures to keep their integrity.

Nork Deddog conversion&renovation

Nork Deddog is one of the last survivors of my old battle scene. He has been reassigned to Land Sharks Catachan Force. The choise is quite simple, because of his jungle suit; and because his very big arms, of course.
Note that this one is the old metal version of Nork Deddog, the original one.
The best one.

I have to break Nork Deddog in pieces, then I've to find a good new pose. Hands and arms force me to chose this one. Thumb up is quite funny and represents to the best the Ogryn goodness.
During the painting I improve furthermore Nork's thumb and Ripper Gun handle.
He misses a red bandana, but he's not a real Catachan, so...

Catachan Land Sharks 2: updating Mechanized Squad

After replacing Lieutenant's head, I tought that would be a good idea renovating my Catachan Battalions. It's a mad idea too.
Now I start the renovation with the Mechanized Squad, my first plastic Cathachan miniatures I've painted. I was in the Army, then I equiped them with Cadian helmets (I can assure you that you cannot stay alive into a VCC carrier without a helmet...).

So, the follow is the comparison between the starting miniatures and the conversions:
Helmets were too Cadian, then I've carved them. Heavy Bolter's (selfmade) munitions come from electric wire. I've restored the flamer and self-made a compact Vox.

Mechanized Squadr painted:
You can see red Catachan bandana around their neck, because of the helmets, of course!

Tallarn Highlanders 6: Lieutenant and three more Guardsmen

A new small upgrade for the Force Commander. I increase his heigh by 1 millimetre or a little more, adding the neck (...) and some details to his chest armour.
Now it's the turn of Tallarn Lieutenant (the first Warhammer 40k miniature I've buyed) and three other Desert Raiders.
The new colour scheme is much better. I would to paint the tropper's skin a bit darker, with more red... maybe I'll do in the future, maybe not...

So, Tallarn Higlanders completed are 16/71.

Tallarn Highlanders 5 with a special guest: Veteran with volleylasgun

Yeah, this one is not a Tallarn Desert Raider, he's a Grenadier with a big volleylasgun. He's the renovation of the officer in Firefight battle scene too, similar to Lucifer Blacks conversion (a variant without mask and gauntlets).

First two steps of the conversion: the two shotguns barrels become volleygun barrels. I give to Tallarn Sergeant a laspistol and I upgrade his sabre to a power sword:

A step back:
Before I have made a twin 2WW Bren indeed, a better choice for the officer with berret. But I changed idea and his head too, because I need it, and I carved another one from a Space Marine Scuot's nape.

Other pics of the renovated miniatures (referring to Tallarns, old colour schemes are reduced to two now...):

Hero Quest Barbarian Mission 2: Marauder Champion renovation

This time I renovate my ex-Rough Rider Sergeant. Now he's a Marauder Champion with war paints on his face like William Wallace in Braveheart movie. Indeed he belongs to Free People of Age of Sigmar (I don't know if in Warhammer Norsca exist good marauders that don't worship Chaos gods).

The photoshopped renovation, the original one, then I change my plan. It's hazardous because this miniature is... legendary for me. But I must fix: 1) the right arm, too big 2) the legs (that belong to Hero Quest Barbarian and I need them, I need the sword's blade too for the same purpose), 3) the caparison and so on.

Marauder conversion with carved plastic:

All the plastic I use is green to help the vision of the conversion. There is no green stuff. I got an axe from the hunter spear; I remove all 40k equipment.
The sword hilt sustains the axe, the sword scabbard needs additional belts...

Free People marauder finally is painted:
I've restored the Warhammer rectangular base because I think that round bases take away a lot of strategy from the game.
The fate of the other five Chaos Marauders is still not certain, because I need a squad of Rough Riders...

Chimera to Leman Russ part 3: conclusion

Vanquisher cannon, made by a Lemar Russ'one and a pen. It can get up and down.

The latest comparison. Chimera turret would be inserted in the Leman's one, maybe like M60 Patton tank.

Conclusion. I'm ashamed to leave this work incomplete, anyway it's clear that a Chimera can be converted to a Leman Russ. A reversible trasformation.
It's sure that a new Leman costs less too.

Tallarn Highlanders 4: first command squad completed

Other five Tallarn Highlanders are now ready for war. This is not the real command squad: there is the commander, the standard bearer and the vox operatori, alright, but there are also two troopers assigned to the veteran squad.
So older colour schemes are reduced to three, as you can see in this group shot.

Green stuff (and layers of white glue) to adjust commander's cloak, shoulder pads and many other critical points.
First I paint Company standard, note the tartan. Yes, it's quite simple, I need a tinier brush...

The five Tallarn Highlanders finally painted:

And here some details of this hazardous renovation:
